Johns Hopkins Treatment Resistant Esketamine Antidepressant Targeted (TREAT) Depression Clinic

Co-Directors: Paul Kim, M.D., Anupama Kumar, M.B.B.S.

The Johns Hopkins TREAT Depression Clinic offers screening services to evaluate if esketamine treatment would be appropriate for persons diagnosed with treatment resistant depression and esketamine treatment services for those evaluated to benefit from the treatment.

Screening Visit Process

If you have been referred by your provider to explore esketamine treatment, please complete the following information to schedule a screening visit.

  1. Completed New Patient Forms and Questionnaires
  2. A referral from your psychiatrist -  The referral needs to state that your psychiatrist is referring you for the treatment, a brief psychiatric history, and that you meet the diagnosis of treatment resistant depression. We currently are not treating patients with Bipolar Depression (manic episode in the past few months), active MJ use (need to be off it for a minimum if 30 days before they start treatment), MDD with psychosis.
  3. List of your past psychiatric medication (you can get this from your pharmacy)
  4. A copy of your insurance card

Once the patient information package is complete and received, we will set up a screening visit for you to meet with one of our clinic psychiatrists. As of now, this visit will be a telemedicine appointment, in compliance with COVID-19 related stay-at-home guidelines. If you prefer an in-person meeting, the visit will be scheduled once the hospital lifts these restrictions at an unknown time in the future. During the screening visit, the psychiatrist will review your psychiatric history, assess your need for treatment, and if appropriate, prescribe and seek approval from your insurance company for esketamine treatment to be done in the clinic.
