Dr. Michael B. Knable is a psychiatrist affiliated with Sibley Memorial Hospital and Suburban Hospital, where he is chairman of the Department of Psychiatry. He also serves as an assistant clinical professor at George Washington University and an adjunct professor at the Uniformed Services University School of Medicine. Dr. Knable is board certified in psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. He is the executive director of the Sylvan C. Herman Foundation and the medical director of Clearview Communities in Frederick, Maryland.

Dr. Knable earned his medical degree from Ohio University. He completed a residency in psychiatry at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital, where he earned the William A. White Award from the Medical Society of St. Elizabeth's Hospital. Dr. Knable also earned the Henry P. and Page Laughlin Resident Award by the American Society of Psychoanalytic Physicians and completed an additional residency in neurology at George Washington University School of Medicine. Dr. Knable was a clinical associate at the National Institute of Mental Health from 1992 to 1998, where he researched severe mental illnesses. He was previously the medical director of The Stanley Medical Research Institute for ten years.

Dr. Knable has been named a Top Doctor in Psychiatry by Washingtonian Magazine.

Dr. Knable is a distinguished fellow of the American Psychiatric Association, as well as a member of the American College of Psychiatrists and the International Schizophrenia Research Society.

Dr. Knable has contributed to over 70 publications on neuropsychiatric disease, including Surviving Manic Depression: A Manual on Bipolar Disorder for Parents, Families and Providers. more
