Research & Publications

Research Summary

Dr. Ashikaga's research specializes in multidisciplinary approaches to studying the heart at the intersection of applied mathematics, statistical physics and computer science. His laboratory focuses on elucidating fundamental mechanisms of atrial fibrillation, which is a powerful risk factor of stroke, dementia, myocardial infarction, and death, and exploiting that knowledge to develop and evaluate novel interventional therapies. Dr. Ashikaga has a unique advantage for multidisciplinary research due to his ability to understand and speak the language of biological, quantitative and clinical sciences. His publication record demonstrates examples of successful multidisciplinary collaborations. Dr. Ashikaga's publications can be downloaded from his laboratory website (

Patient Ratings & Comments

The Patient Rating score is an average of all responses to physician related questions on the national CG-CAHPS Medical Practice patient experience survey through Press Ganey. Responses are measured on a scale of 1 to 5, with 5 being the best score. Comments are also gathered from our CG-CAHPS Medical Practice Survey through Press Ganey and displayed in their entirety. Patients are de-identified for confidentiality and patient privacy.
