Background

Eliana Ferreira Ribeiro Durães is an assistant professor of plastic and reconstructive surgery and burn surgery at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. She specializes in burn surgery, microsurgery, breast reconstruction, cosmetic surgeries and body contouring.

Hailing originally from Brazil, Dr. Durães joined Johns Hopkins in 2018 as a clinical fellow in burn surgery, followed by a year performing microsurgery and plastic and reconstructive procedures at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation before returning to Johns Hopkins.

Dr. Durães was board-certified by the Brazilian Society of Plastic Surgery after completing her residency training in general surgery and plastic surgery. She worked as a plastic surgeon focused on cosmetic surgery, body contouring, and aesthetic and reconstructive breast surgery in Brazil for eight years before moving to the U.S. to conduct her doctoral research on breast reconstruction at the Cleveland Clinic.

Since 2013, her basic and clinical research has explored breast reconstruction surgery, preservation of amputated limbs and advanced microsurgery.

Dr. Durães has presented at multiple plastic surgery meetings and seminars on a range of topics, and her manuscripts have been published in peer-reviewed journals. She has been awarded research grants for her work in breast reconstruction and microsurgery for using extra-corporeal perfusion techniques to keep extremities viable after detachment from the body.

Dr. Durães speaks fluent Portuguese and English, and enjoys spending time with her husband and three children, traveling, and walking her dog in her free time.
