Background
Dr. Alvaro Ordonez is an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.
After earning his medical degree at the Universidad Industrial de Santander in Colombia, Dr. Ordonez completed a post-doctoral fellowship at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. He joined the faculty of the Division of Pediatric Infectious Diseases and the Center for Tuberculosis Research in 2018.
His research interests include molecular imaging of bacterial and viral infections, the evaluation of host-directed therapies to modulate the infection-associated inflammatory response, and the use of PET imaging to characterize the intralesional pharmacokinetics of antibiotics. He has led the development of bacteria-specific molecular imaging agents to allow longitudinal, noninvasive assessments and provide key information about infectious processes deep within the body.
