Bijay Acharya is a Hospitalist in the Department of Medicine at Johns Hopkins Hospital and a Faculty at the JHU School of Medicine. He received his M.B.B.S. from B.P. Koirala Institute of Health Sciences, Nepal and his Internal Medicine Residency at the Bronx Lebanon Hospital Center, NY. He joined the Massachusetts General Hospital's Hospital Medicine Group as an academic Hospitalist for 7 years where he served as the Harvard Medical School/CRICO's Fellow in Patient Safety and Quality while completing a MPH at the Harvard TH Chan School of Public Health. At MGH, he led care redesign programs in referral management, care transitions and complex patient management to build and strengthen the hospitalist group. Before joining JHU, he was the Physician Chair of the MGH Medication Safety and Quality Committee. He has also worked with the World Health Organization's Patient Safety and Risk Management Unit as a consultant.
He has a strong passion for global health and was the co-founder of NyayaHealth/Possible that runs an integrated health system in rural Nepal for last decade in partnership with the government. He is also on the board of the America Nepal Medical Foundation that provides funding to projects and initiatives that advance healthcare in Nepal.
His is currently working on implementing Quality Improvement initiatives to address workplace violence and build patient safety focused medical malpractice regulatory framework in LMIC and resource poor settings as well as in the US.
