Background

Richard Barnhart, DO is an assistant professor of anesthesiology and critical care medicine at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. His areas of clinical expertise are in acute pain medicine, regional anesthesia, opiate sparing analgesia and enhanced recovery after surgery pathways. Dr. Barnhart received his undergraduate degree at the University of Pittsburgh with a bachelor’s of science in Neuroscience. He attended the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine where he earned his DO. He then did his residency in anesthesiology at Thomas Jefferson University. Afterward, he completed a Regional Anesthesia and Acute Pain Medicine fellowship at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. Dr. Barnhart has interests in Acute Pain and Regional Anesthesia, Enhanced Recovery After Surgery, Opiate sparing analgesia, and holistic approaches to post-operative pain. Dr. Barnhart serves as the Director of Acute Pain Medicine at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center.
