Background

Dr. Lu comes to Johns Hopkins after completing a five-year residency program training exclusively in head and neck surgery at the University of Kansas Medical Center, where she served as a Chief Resident during her final year of training. At KU, Dr. Lu was awarded the Clinical Excellence Award by her department and chosen by her peers as the Resident Teacher of the Year during as a chief resident. Over the course of her training, she developed an interest in facial aesthetic and reconstructive surgery through the mentorship of her faculty. Dr. Lu authored numerous journal articles and book chapters related to complex head and neck reconstructive and aesthetic techniques. Additionally, she had the opportunity to study composite graft healing in an animal model as well as pedicled flaps for lateral skull base reconstruction.

At Johns Hopkins, Dr. Lu will be training with Drs. Patrick Byrne, Ira Papel, Kofi Boahene, and Lisa Ishii to further concentrate her clinical interests in facial reanimation options for patients with facial paralysis, facial reconstruction following cancer resection and traumatic injuries, and facial aesthetic surgery. Her long-term career goals include dedicated research in facial reanimation techniques and head and neck reconstructive surgery as well as developing an academic career in medical education. Outside of work, Dr. Lu enjoys practicing yoga, dabbling in watercolor art, and running along the harbor. ?
