Dr. Faro comes from Temple University where he was a professor of Radiology, Biomedical, Electrical and Computer Science Engineering. He was a founder and past president of the American Society of Functional Neuroradiology (ASFNR). Dr. Faro maintains an active role in both the ASFNR and the ASNR and was chair of the ASFNR CPT committee that was instrumental in proposing and directing a 3 year CPT approval process for 3 new national CPT codes to perform clinical fMRI. For these societies, he developed and continues to run an ongoing clinical workshop on the acquisition, data processing and interpretation of Clinical BOLD fMRI. This workshop draws MD’s and Ph. D’s from all over the world.
He was the founder and Director of the Temple University MRI Core that over the last 7-8 years obtained more than 20 M in extramural funding. Dr. Faro’s research focus is in translational MR neuroimaging of BOLD and DTI. His research laboratory trained medical students, residents, and fellows in these MR techniques and M.S. and Ph.D. students from Biomedical, Electrical and Computer science engineering to be MR physicists.
At Temple he was the vice chair of research and faculty academics, director of MRI and service chief of neuroradiology. He is on the editorial board and a reviewer for many prestigious scientific journals. Dr. Faro has produced more than 300 peer reviewed articles, abstracts and book chapters. He has 4 text books including a comprehensive text entitled, “Clinical Functional Neuroradiology: Principles and clinical applications” that is considered a gold std. text in this field by the AJNR.
On the home front he has a wonderful wife who is a ceramic artist and pediatric RN and 3 great children. He enjoys composing music on his guitar and is a black belt in Kodo Ki Karate. For many years he has been a martial arts instructor teaching medial students, residents and faculty martial arts with a focus on eastern meditative and awareness techniques.
