Background

Dr. Lydia Pecker is a pediatric hematologist in Baltimore, caring for young adults with sickle cell disease. She serves as director of the Young Adult Clinic at the Johns Hopkins Sickle Cell Center for Adults.

Dr. Pecker received her undergraduate degree in Africana studies from Brown University and earned her M.D. at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. She completed her general pediatrics residency at Children’s Hospital at Montefiore and performed a fellowship in pediatric hematology-oncology at Children’s National Medical Center and the National Institutes of Health’s National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute. Dr. Pecker joined the Johns Hopkins faculty in 2017.

Her research interests include reproductive health and ovarian reserve in young women with sickle cell disease; and barriers to care, social determinants of health and risks for early mortality in young adults with sickle cell disease.

Dr. Pecker serves as assistant director of the SiNERGe collaborative monthly sickle cell disease research seminars. She has been recognized with several honors, including being named a Clinical Research Scholar in Women's Health by the Johns Hopkins Institute for Clinical and Translational Research in 2018. She is a member of the American Society of Hematology and the American Academy of Pediatrics.
