Senior Medical Physicist

Assistant Professor of Radiation Oncology and Molecular Radiation Sciences


As a medical physicist in the Department of Radiation Oncology and Molecular Radiation Sciences, I am involved in research development and clinic coverage. My research interest is to develop cutting-edge biomedical technologies that bridge the basic physics/engineering research and pre- and clinical cancer therapy application. The main focus of my group (but not limited to) is to advance optical imaging for soft tissue target localization and response assessment in pre-clinical radiation research. My colleague and I have successfully integrated the cone-beam CT (CBCT) and bioluminescence tomography (BLT) to guide focal irradiation with the small animal radiation research platform (SARRP). Our work has led to Xstrahl’s, our industrial partner, commercialize the optical imaging utility for the SARRP. To further bring the SARRP targeting and functional imaging capability to the next level, we will incorporate quantitative BLT and fluorescence tomography (FT). We believe that the tri-modal imaging system (CBCT/BLT/FT) will greatly expand the capabilities for pre-clinical radiation research that has not been the focus of the molecular optical imaging industry at large. In addition to the biomedical optics, my research background spans a broad range of topics that cover photodynamic therapy (PDT), beam data modeling and quality assurance for radiation therapy, prostate motion management techniques, proton therapy and condensed matter physics. As a clinic physicist, I have been involving in linear accelerator commissioning, special procedures, stereotactic treatment, routine clinical coverage, and team management. more
