Instructor of Medicine

Background

Dr. Lingling Xian is an instructor of medicine at Johns Hopkins University in the department of hematology. She graduated from medical school in Clinic Medicine in Shihezi University  in 1999. She began a Ph.D training at the State Key Laboratory of Genetic Engineering at Fudan University in Shanghai, China in 2005. There, she developed expertise in cancer molecular genetics.

Her research focuses on chromatin remodeling proteins in tumor progression, stem cells, and normal development.

Prior to her appointment at Johns Hopkins University, Dr. Xian was a research associate at both the department of orthopaedic surgery and the department of hematology at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.

She has published extensively, holds four patents that she co-authored, and has most recently been awarded the 2017 Johns Hopkins School Medicine Department of Medicine Research Retreat Basic Science Award.

Research Summary

After graduating from medical school in 1999, I began PhD training in at the State Key Laboratory of Genetic Engineering at Fudan University.  There, I developed expertise in cancer molecular genetics. I was subsequently recruited to the laboratory of Dr. Xu Cao at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine where I continued to develop expertise in stem cell biology in 2010. Given my passion for the interplay between stem cell behavior and tumor progression, I subsequently joined the laboratory of Dr. Linda Resar in October of 2013. Now I am focus on chromatin remodeling proteins in tumor progression, stem cells, and normal development.
