Background

Dr. Thomas P. Winkler is an otolaryngologist affiliated with Sibley Memorial Hospital and Georgetown University Hospital, where he serves as a clinical assistant professor in the department of otolaryngology. He practices out of Chevy Chase ENT Associates in Chevy Chase, Md.

Dr. Winkler has an expertise in nasal and sinus disorders, sleep apnea and snoring, children’s ENT disorders and pediatric surgery, and endocrine surgery of the thyroid and parathyroid glands. 

Dr. Winkler earned his medical degree at Georgetown University School of Medicine. He received the United States health professions scholarship and completed a residency in otolaryngology at Madigan Army Medical Center. Dr. Winkler served as a physician in the United States Army for ten years. He was commander of the Babenhausen Health Clinic and provided primary care to approximately 5,000 soldiers and their dependents with the 41st Field Artillery Brigade in Babenhausen, Germany. During Desert Shield, Dr. Winkler served as the commander of the Wiesbaden Airbase Clinic in Germany and later served as the officer-in-charge of the head and neck trauma team during the Bosnian War while stationed in Landstuhl, Germany. 

Dr. Winkler is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and the American Academy of Otolaryngology. He previously served as the president of the Georgetown Clinical Society, the Osler Society and the Sibley Medical Association. Dr. Winkler provides pro bono care to the uninsured and indigent with Catholic Charities, as well as Torture Abolition and Survivors Support Coalition. 

Dr. Winkler has been named a Top Doctor by Washingtonian Magazine, Consumers’ Checkbook magazine and U.S. News & World Report.
