Dr. Scott D. Shapiro is a cardiologist affiliated with Sibley Memorial Hospital, Suburban Hospital, Holy Cross Hospital and George Washington University Hospital, where he is the director of arrhythmia services and an assistant professor of medicine for the School of Medicine. He practices out of Medical Faculty Associates in Washington, D.C.

Dr. Shapiro has an expertise in catheter ablation for treatment of arrhythmias, atrial fibrillation, implantation of pacemakers and defibrillators, arrhythmia consultation and cardiovascular consultation. 

Dr. Shapiro earned his medical degree from Albert Einstein College of Medicine. He completed a residency in internal medicine at New York Presbyterian Hospital as chief resident, followed by a fellowship in cardiology at Mount Sinai Hospital and a fellowship in cardiac electrophysiology at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons. 

Dr. Shapiro has contributed to numerous publications and presentations on cardiology topics, such as the genetics of sudden cardiac death in children due to mutations in enzymes of metabolism. He has investigated gene therapy as a method of cardiac regeneration and utilizing advanced imaging modalities to assess efficacy of this treatment.
