Dr. Michael J. Schwartz is a gastroenterologist affiliated with Sibley Memorial Hospital, Suburban Hospital, Washington Hospital Center and George Washington University Hospital, where he serves as an associate clinical professor for the School of Medicine. Dr. Schwartz is certified in gastroenterology and internal medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine. He practices out of Capital Digestive Care’s Metropolitan Gastroenterology Group in Washington, D.C.
Dr. Schwartz has an expertise in colon cancer screening and prevention through colonoscopy; colitis and Crohn’s disease; irritable bowel syndrome; gastroesophageal reflux disease; and liver diseases such as chronic viral hepatitis.
Dr. Schwartz earned his undergraduate degree from Harvard College and his medical degree from the University of Rochester. He completed a residency in internal medicine and a fellowship in gastroenterology and hepatology at George Washington University School of Medicine. Dr. Schwartz also served as a commissioned officer with the National Health Service Corps for two years.
Dr. Schwartz is a member of the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America, the Medical Society of the District of Columbia, the Washington Society of Gastroenterology and the American Gastroenterological Association.
