Background
Joshua J. Wind, M.D., is a neurosurgeon at Sibley Memorial Hospital, as well as an adjunct assistant professor of neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. He practices out of Washington Neurosurgical Associates in Sibley Memorial Hospital’s Building A.
Dr. Wind has expertise in neurosurgery with an emphasis on minimally invasive treatment options, as well as spinal and cranial neuro-oncology, and pituitary surgery. Dr. Wind travels nationally to educate surgeons on minimally invasive surgical techniques.
At Sibley Memorial Hospital, Dr. Wind serves on the Intensive Care Unit Committee and the Cancer Committee.
Dr. Wind earned his medical degree from Loyola University School of Medicine, where he was awarded Best Presentation in Collaborative Conceptual Research in the Honors Program in Bioethics and Professionalism. He completed a general surgery internship and neurological surgery residency at George Washington University (GWU) Medical Center, where he was awarded the Wolfgang Koos, M.D., GWU Neurosurgical Resident's Award for Compassion and Excellence in Patient Care, as well as the GWU Research Day Resident Award. Dr. Wind then completed a clinical neurosurgery and research fellowship in the Surgical Neurology Branch of the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke within the National Institutes of Health, where he studied neuro-oncology and pituitary surgery.
Dr. Wind was appointed as a physician board member for the District of Columbia Board of Medicine by Mayor Muriel Bowser. He is a member of the Congress of Neurological Surgeons, the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, the American Colleges of Surgeons, the Federation of State Medical Boards, the Washington Academy of Neurological Surgeons and The Osler Society.
Dr. Wind has been awarded the Crutchfield, Gage and Thomas Award for clinical research at the Neurosurgical Society of the Virginias Annual Meeting, as well as the Synthes Skull Base Award at the American Association of Neurological Surgeons Annual Meeting. He was elected as a fellow of the Arnold P. Gold Humanism Honor Society, and has been named a Top Doctor in Neurosurgery by Washingtonian magazine consecutively for 8 years and Washington Consumer's Checkbook.
Dr. Wind has authored numerous publications, book chapters and presentations on minimally invasive spine surgery, pituitary tumors and neuro-oncology in journals such as The New England Journal of Medicine, The Journal of Neurosurgery, The Journal of Clinical Neuroscience and The European Spine Journal. He is also a supervisor of the monthly journal club for the neurosurgical residents at the George Washington University, where he serves as an assistant clinical professor of neurosurgery.
Dr. Wind conducts clinical trials as both a principal investigator and sub-investigator.
