Dr. J. Richard Wells, Jr. is an affiliate of Sibley Memorial Hospital. Dr. Wells has retired from performing surgery, but works with a referral network of experienced surgical specialists. He is board certified and has a solo practice in Chevy Chase, MD. He is currently a clinical instructor for the George Washington University orthopaedic residency program and provides clerkship instruction to medical students at Georgetown University Medical School and George Washington Medical School.

Dr. Wells has an expertise in sports medicine, joint replacement and spine surgery.

Dr. Wells earned his undergraduate degree from Villanova University and his medical degree from Georgetown University School of Medicine. He completed an internship in general surgery at Emory University before returning to Georgetown University Hospital to complete a residency in orthopaedic surgery. Dr. Wells was previously a clinical instructor of orthopaedic residency, an assistant team physician and the co-director of the sports medicine clinic at Georgetown University. He was also an assistant team physician for the Washington Bullets/Wizards, the Washington Capitals and Team America.

Dr. Wells is a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgery, as well as a member of the Washington Orthopaedic Society and the North American Spine Society. more
