Dr. Elizabeth O’Leary is a surgeon affiliated with Sibley Memorial Hospital and Suburban Hospital. Dr. O’Leary is board-certified in general surgery by the American Board of Surgery. She practices out of Chevy Chase Surgical Associates in Chevy Chase, Maryland.
Dr. O’Leary has an expertise in breast cancer, cancer therapies and benign breast diseases. She also treats patients with a variety of surgical problems, including gall bladder disease, hernias, diseases of the appendix, hemorrhoids, anal fissures, thyroid disease and cancer, parathyroid disease, abdominal pain, abscesses, chemotherapy port placement, biopsies and colorectal cancers.
Dr. O’Leary earned her medical degree from the University of Minnesota School of Medicine. She received her master’s of health science degree in disease control and prevention from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, where she was awarded the Vaccine Science and Policy Certificate. Dr. O’Leary continued at Johns Hopkins to conduct cancer research and was involved in many studies. She also completed a general surgery residency at Washington Hospital Center.
Dr. O’Leary has been inducted to the Gold Humanism Honor Society and the Phi Rho Sigma Medical Society, where she served as president. She is a member of the American College of Surgeons, the American Society of Breast Surgeons, the D.C. Chapter of the American College of Surgeons, the Georgetown Clinical Society, the American Medical Association and the Montgomery County Medical Society. Dr. O’Leary was involved with the Women’s Cancer Resource Center (WCRC) in program development for the WCRC & Sisters in Harmony, a community-based initiative with emphasis on education and awareness.
Dr. O’Leary has been recognized at both the national and regional levels for her surgical research, earning several awards and presenting her research at the national meeting of the American College of Surgeons.
