Dr. Catherine A. Picken is an otolaryngologist affiliated with Sibley Memorial Hospital and Georgetown University Hospital. Dr. Picken is certified in otolaryngology by the American Board of Otolaryngology. She practices out of Washington ENT Group, located in Washington, D.C.
Dr. Pickens has an expertise in nasal and sinus problems including polyps, tumors and complex revision sinus procedures; evaluation and treatment of sleep disorders; and management and surgery of head and neck tumors including salivary gland tumors, thyroid and parathyroid tumors, cervical lymph node tumors, and oral, throat and voice box tumors.
Dr. Picken earned her undergraduate degree from Knox College and her medical degree from Northwestern University Medical School. She completed an internship and a residency in general surgery at Northwestern Memorial Hospital before serving as a clinical surgical fellow at the National Institutes of Health National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute. Dr. Pickens went on to complete a residency in otolaryngology at Georgetown University School of Medicine. Dr. Pickens served as chief of the division of otolaryngology at the Veteran’s Administration Medical Center before joining the department of otolaryngology at Georgetown University Hospital, where she served on the board of directors.
Dr. Pickens is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and the American Academy of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery.
Dr. Pickens has received teaching awards for her work at Georgetown University Hospital, as well as a Special Citation for Clinical Excellence and repeated recognition in the hospital’s Gallery of Service Excellence. Dr. Pickens has been repeatedly named a Top MD by Washingtonian Magazine and Consumers’ Checkbook Magazine. She has also been named a Super Doctor by the Washington Post and repeatedly named one of America’s Top Doctors by Castle Connolly.
Dr. Pickens has contributed to various publications on otolaryngology topics.
