Dr. Jonathan Ellen is President, CEO & Physician-in-Chief at Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital (JHACH) and Vice Dean and Professor of Pediatrics at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. He leads the hospital’s transformation as an academic and research center focused on developing better cures and improving care, outcomes, patient safety and value. He created new academic training programs and interdisciplinary institutes centered on congenital heart disease, neuroscience, cancer/blood disease and the maternal-neonatal continuum, and is recruiting top clinicians and scientists to JHACH. A former leader of the Adolescent Medicine Trials Network for HIV, he is recognized internationally for his work on preventing disease in adolescents through community-based structural change. more

Research & Publications

Research Summary

Dr. Ellen’s research focuses on community-based health initiatives, especially structural changes to impact asthma, obesity and infant mortality. He was previously the leader of the Adolescent Medicine Trials Network for HIV/AIDS Intervention, serving as principal investigator for Connect to Protect®, a community coalition-based program.

His past research focused on preventing sexually transmitted infections, including HIV, in adolescents and the structural and environmental factors associated with disease transmission, and he received more than $25 million in research awards from the CDC, NIH and other agencies.
