Dr. Edith Gurewitsch Allen is an associate professor in the Johns Hopkins Medicine Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics. Her areas of clinical expertise include labor and delivery and management of high-risk pregnancies. Dr. Gurewitsch Allen is a leading expert on shoulder dystocia and brachial plexus injury.

Dr. Gurewitsch Allen received her undergraduate degree in biology-psychology from Columbia College at Columbia University. She earned her M.D. from Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons. She completed her residency and performed a fellowship in maternal-fetal medicine at New York Hospital, Cornell University Medical Center. Dr. Gurewitsch Allen joined the Johns Hopkins faculty in 1997.

Dr. Gurewitsch Allen’s research interests include shoulder dystocia and birth simulation technology. Dr. Gurewitsch Allen also has an appointment in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at Johns Hopkins University, where she is an associate professor.

Dr. Gurewitsch Allen is a fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and a member of the Society of Maternal-Fetal Medicine.  She has served as a peer reviewer for numerous medical journals and is listed in the Consumers’ Research Council of America’s Guide to America’s Top Obstetricians and Gynecologists. more
