Mary Beth Brady is associate professor of anesthesiology and critical care medicine at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. She is nationally known as an expert in transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) and serves as director of the Intraoperative TEE Program. For years she has been on the forefront of educational initiatives on TEE education. Dr. Brady serves as the vice chair for education for the Department of Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine. In this role, she coordinates educational initiatives across multiple Johns Hopkins campuses. She is also medical director of the adult post-anesthesia care unit at Johns Hopkins.

Dr. Brady currently holds positions on the Society of Cardiovascular Anesthesiologists (SCA) Annual Scientific Program Committee, the American Society of Anesthesiologists Educational Track Subcommittee on Cardiac Anesthesia and on the SCA International Committee. In 2015, she completed a four-year term as council member of the American Society of Echocardiography Council on Perioperative Echocardiography. In these roles, she organizes and executes educational components of these national and international meetings.

Since its debut in 2009, Dr. Brady has been a member of the editorial board of Open Anesthesia (OA), which is a multimodal internet toolkit sponsored by the International Anesthesia Research Society. The mission of OA is to offer unique educational tools for residents, fellows and medical students with an interest in anesthesiology. It has become the comprehensive resource for anesthesiology residents and physicians worldwide. Dr. Brady is also a fellow of the American Society of Echocardiography and serves on the editorial board of Seminars in Cardiothoracic and Vascular Anesthesia. She is board certified in advanced perioperative TEE.

Dr. Brady received her undergraduate and medical degrees at Georgetown University, and completed a residency in anesthesiology and a combined fellowship in cardiac anesthesia and vascular-thoracic anesthesia at Johns Hopkins. She then joined the anesthesiology and critical care medicine faculty and subsequently accepted the role of director of intraoperative TEE in the division of cardiac anesthesiology. Dr. Brady is engaged in TEE education for trainees in cardiac anesthesiology, anesthesiology, cardiothoracic surgery, cardiology and ultrasonography.
