Background
Dr. Lupold is the Catherine Iola and J. Smith Michael Distinguished Professor in Urology and Oncology at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. He also has appointments in the Department of Radiation Oncology and Molecular Radiation Sciences and the Cellular and Molecular Medicine (CMM) Graduate Training Program. His research focuses on the molecular biology of prostate cancer, aiming to elucidate disease mechanisms and develop future diagnostic, prognostic, and therapeutic approaches. Areas of interest include microRNA and noncoding RNA biology, the tumor immune microenvironment, experimental therapeutics, and high-throughput library development and screening.
Dr. Lupold received his B.S. from the University of Maryland, College Park, and trained as a pre-doctoral IRTA fellow at the Laboratory of Human Carcinogenesis at the National Cancer Institute and National Institutes of Health. He received his Ph.D. in Pharmacology and Molecular Sciences from the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine Biochemistry, Cellular, and Molecular Biology (BCMB) graduate program. He completed a postdoctoral fellowship in prostate cancer gene therapeutics at the Brady Urological Research Institute at Johns Hopkins.
Dr. Lupold has led multiple private, NIH, and DOD funded research projects on the study of prostate cancer molecular biology, detection, and targeting. He has published extensively on prostate cancer biology and holds several patents for discoveries associated with prostate-specific cell targeting and detection. He has received recognition for his work including the Society of Basic Urologic Research Young Investigator Award and collaborative work that received the Johns Hopkins Institute for Clinical and Translational Research (ICTR) Team Science Award. Dr. Lupold has also served as Associate Editor of the American Journal of Clinical and Experimental Urology and The Prostate, as a member of the American Urological Association Research Council, and as Treasurer, Vice President, and President of the Society of Basic Urologic Research.
Patient Ratings & Comments
The Patient Rating score is an average of all responses to physician related questions on the national CG-CAHPS Medical Practice patient experience survey through Press Ganey. Responses are measured on a scale of 1 to 5, with 5 being the best score. Comments are also gathered from our CG-CAHPS Medical Practice Survey through Press Ganey and displayed in their entirety. Patients are de-identified for confidentiality and patient privacy.
