Background

Torre Leigh Halscott, M.D., M.S., is a maternal-fetal medicine specialist and critical care doctor who treats patients with high-risk pregnancies in the Baltimore area. He is an assistant professor in the Division of Maternal-Fetal Medicine in the Johns Hopkins University Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics.

Dr. Halscott specializes in caring for pregnant patients with complex medical issues, such as heart, kidney, neurological and other conditions that may make their pregnancies more challenging. He works closely with his patients to first understand their goals in pregnancy and then guide them through their prenatal care, from their first clinic visit to delivery and postpartum care. Dr. Halscott uses current, evidence-based care approaches to ensure a safe and healthy outcome for both mother and baby.                                       

Dr. Halscott has completed extensive training, including a fellowship in maternal-fetal medicine from the University of Arizona College of Medicine, Phoenix, and from MedStar Georgetown University Hospital, and an additional fellowship in critical care medicine from the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. Previously, he completed a residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Orlando Health, Winnie Palmer Hospital for Women & Babies. He earned his medical degree from the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, a master’s degree in clinical and translational research from Georgetown University and an undergraduate degree in biology from the University of Central Florida.

Prior to arriving at Johns Hopkins, Dr. Halscott was an assistant professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology and the Department of Surgery at the Howard University College of Medicine. Before that, he was an attending physician at the University of Maryland Prince George’s Hospital Center and TLC Perinatal.

Dr. Halscott has served as an instructor, lecturer and facilitator of numerous courses on evidence-based obstetrical management as well as coordination of care for maternal critical illness. He has been recognized with several awards and honors, including Top Reviewer awards from the American Journal of Obstetrics & Gynecology, the journal Obstetrics & Gynecology and Above and Beyond, as well as excellence in teaching awards from the University of Central Florida College of Medicine. He has also published several manuscripts and textbook chapters related to his clinical interests.

He is a member of several professional organizations including the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, the Society for Maternal-Fetal Medicine and the Society of Critical Care Medicine.

Outside of medicine, Dr. Halscott enjoys spending quality time with his two sons, Jude and Remy, practicing his guitar, staying fit and performing mindfulness meditation.
