Philip Spevak, M.D., serves as Chief Informatics Officer at the Johns Hopkins Children’s Center in Baltimore, Maryland, as well as an associate professor of pediatrics at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. Dr. Spevak is board-certified in pediatric cardiology and general pediatrics by the American Board of Pediatrics. He is also affiliated with Sibley Memorial Hospital in Washington, D.C.
Dr. Spevak has an expertise in pediatric cardiology, including pediatric cardiac imaging, non-invasive imaging and cardiovascular MRI; cardiology, fetal cardiology and clinical cardiology; cardiovascular diseases and congenital heart disease; echocardiography; and informatics.
Dr. Spevak earned a master’s degree in economics from the University of Wisconsin, followed by a medical degree from the University of Iowa College of Medicine. He completed a residency in pediatrics at Massachusetts General Hospital, as well as a fellowship in pediatric cardiology at the Children’s Hospital/Harvard Medical School. Dr. Spevak has also received a certificate for the completion of The Science of Clinical Investigation at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and a master’s of public health from the Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg School of Public Health. Dr. Spevak was also part of creating the Cardiac Magnetic Resonance Imaging Program of Johns Hopkins Hospital, and the Pediatric Echocardiography Laboratory at Johns Hopkins Hospital.
Dr. Spevak is a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics and American College of Cardiology, as well as a member of the American Society of Echocardiography, the Society for Cardiac Magnetic Resonance Imaging, the Society of Pediatric Echocardiography, the American Heart Association and the Society for Imaging Informatics in Medicine.
Dr. Spevak’s research interests include health informatics; health policy; non-invasive cardiac imaging; echocardiography; infant, child and adult with congenital heart disease; and resource utilization. He has contributed to numerous publications, seminars, workshops and book chapters, as well as reviewing several journals.
