Research & Publications

Research Summary

Dr. Punjabi’s research interests are in the epidemiology and clinical effects of sleep-disordered breathing. He was one of the site investigators in the landmark Sleep Heart Health Study, which was designed to test whether sleep-disordered breathing is associated with an increased risk of hypertension, coronary heart disease, stroke, all-cause mortality. Utilizing a variety of approaches, including observational, experimental studies, and randomized clinical trials, his current research interests include understanding the mechanisms of altered glucose metabolism in sleep-disordered breathing, and the association of sleep disorders with cardiovascular health.
