Background

Dr. Marquita Genies is an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.  Her clinical area of expertise is in pediatric hospital medicine.

After earning an undergraduate degree in Biology at Spelman College, Dr. Genies attended medical school at The University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and received a Masters of Public Health from The University of Pittsburgh Graduate School of Public Health. She completed her residency in pediatrics at The University of North Carolina and a General Academic Pediatrics Fellowship at Johns Hopkins. Her fellowship training focused on quality and safety and medical education.  

Dr. Genies’ research interest focuses on improving healthcare value through the expeditious yet safe translation of evidence-based guidelines into clinical practice. She is co-director of the National High Value Pediatric Academic Alliance which aims to foster cross-institutional collaboration to improve healthcare value on a national scale and engage medical students, residents and fellows through value-based curricula and participation in high value initiatives. 

Dr. Genies has served as the Maryland Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics’ medical director of quality improvement and patient safety from 2016-2017 and led a pediatric obesity learning collaborative among pediatric generalist and subspecialist throughout Maryland. She is a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics section on Hospital Medicine and the Academic Pediatrics Association.
