Background
Lydia Gregg received her Master of Arts in Medical and Biological Illustration from the Department of Art as Applied to Medicine at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in 2007 after studying biology, scientific illustration and figurative sculpture at the University of Michigan.
As director of the Visualization Core Laboratory, Gregg manages the development of 3D models from segmented radiological data for didactic 3D prints, phantoms & flow models for research purposes and animation assets.
As a medical illustrator and animator, Lydia specializes in depicting neurovascular & spine conditions for peer-reviewed journal articles, books, presentations and websites. In addition, she develops patient education material such as brochures, medical comics (graphic medicine) and educational videos. Gregg's areas of interest in research include cerebrovascular anatomy, embryology & pathology, as well as testing the efficacy of patient communication and medical education materials.
Gregg has received numerous awards and honors including the Inez Demonet Award, the Frank H. Netter MD Memorial Scholarship in Medical Art, National Health Information awards and multiple salon awards from the Association of Medical Illustrators as well as other organizations. Lydia was inducted as a Fellow of the Association of Medical Illustrators (FAMI) in 2013 and served as Chair of the Association of Medical Illustrators Board of Governors from 2016 to 2017. She is currently serving as Chair Ex Officio of the Association of Medical Illustrators and Advisor to the Vesalius Trust.
