Background
Katharine Funari, O.D., M.P.H., is a pediatric optometrist caring for patients in Bethesda, Maryland. She specializes in vision care for disorders of strabismus, amblyopia (lazy eye) and convergence insufficiency. She has particular interest in myopia control methods of orthokeratology, atropine therapy and multifocal contact lenses. Other interests include acquired brain injury including concussion and vision rehabilitation.
Along with surgical specialists, Dr. Funari co-manages the treatment of strabismus, cataracts, glaucoma and retinal disease. She also provides comprehensive eye care to patients of all ages and has additional experience with contact lens fittings and emergency eye care in the treatment of uveitis, corneal ulcers and conjunctivitis.
Dr. Funari received her Bachelor of Science degree from Villanova University. She received her Doctor of Optometry degree from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry at Salus University, where she was awarded clinical honors and the Good-Lite Award for advanced competency in binocular vision and pediatric vision care. She received additional training at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center; Ralph H. Johnson VA Medical Center in Charleston, South Carolina; and St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children and Magee Rehabilitation Hospital, both in Philadelphia.
