Background

Dr. Falligant is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and a Senior Behavior Analyst in the inpatient Neurobehavioral Unit at the Kennedy Krieger Institute. Dr. Falligant is a clinical psychologist with more than a decade of research and practice experience in the area of severe problem behavior. He received his Ph.D. from Auburn University and completed his Doctoral Internship and a Postdoctoral Research Fellowship in the Department of Pediatrics at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and Kennedy Krieger Institute.

His clinical work and research focus on the assessment and treatment of behavioral dysfunction in individuals with neurodevelopmental disorders. Dr. Falligant’s work has spanned a variety of clinical settings, including early intervention programs, a residential facility for children with severe emotional disturbances, a secure state correctional facility for juveniles adjudicated for illegal sexual behavior, and outpatient clinics for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities with severe problem behavior.

Dr. Falligant’s research interests involve quantitative models of choice behavior and impulsivity, reward sensitivity, behavioral persistence, and precision medicine. Recently, his research has focused on applying computational models derived from complexity theory - the Evolutionary Theory of Behavior Dynamics - to severe problem behavior. He has authored numerous book chapters in addition to more than 60 publications in peer-reviewed journals, including the Journal of Applied Behavior Analysis, Journal of the Experimental Analysis of Behavior, Behavioural Processes, Perspectives on Behavior Science, Behavioral Interventions, Behavior Modification, Behavior Analysis: Research and Practice, Developmental Neurorehabilitation, Behavior Analysis in Practice, Experimental Analysis of Human Behavior Bulletin, Journal of Developmental and Physical Disabilities, Psychology of Sport and Exercise, Translational Issues in Psychological Science, Sexual Abuse, Journal of Forensic Psychology Practice, Journal of Sexual Aggression, Journal of Child Sexual Abuse, Behavioral Sciences and the Law, Behavior and Social Issues, The Psychological Record, and Frontiers in Psychiatry.
