Background

Dr. Joanna Cohen is a pediatric emergency medicine physician. She specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of acutely ill and injured children.

Dr. Cohen graduated from the State University of New York, Downstate Medical Center College of Medicine and completed her internship and residency in pediatrics at Johns Hopkins Hospital. She was fellowship trained in pediatric emergency medicine and in point of care ultrasound at Children’s National Hospital and George Washington University Hospital. She served as a pediatric emergency medicine physician and director of point of care ultrasound at Children’s National Hospital in Washington, D.C. prior to joining the faculty at Johns Hopkins.

Dr. Cohen’s research focus has been in the field of diagnostic imaging, specifically point-of-care ultrasound and reducing radiation exposure in children. Secondary research focuses have been in the field of firearm injury prevention in children and health care utilization, specifically the role of the low acuity emergency visit on the health care system and the development of academic urgent care fellowships to meet this growing need.
