Background

Dr. Herleen (Sofi) Rai is an Assistant Professor of Pathology at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and serves as Associate Director of the Clinical Pathology Residency Program. As a faculty member of the Division of Transfusion Medicine, her clinical expertise lies in transfusion medicine and apheresis.

Dr. Rai was raised in Cleveland, Ohio. She completed her undergraduate degree at The Ohio State University and obtained her MD from Ross University School of Medicine. Following this, she pursued pathology residency training at Case Western University School of Medicine/ University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center and completed a two-year fellowship in Transfusion Medicine at the NIH.

Her research interests primarily focus on stem cell and cellular therapies. Dr. Rai has contributed to the development of protocols for cell therapy manufacturing, both for clinical and research purposes. She is dedicated to resident educations and professional development and actively participates in various activities and committees within AABB, International Society of Blood Transfusion (ISBT), and the American Society of Apheresis (ASFA).
