Dr. Ekemini A. Ogbu is an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. She directs the Johns Hopkins Pediatric Rheumatology and Pediatric Lupus Clinics.

She received her medical degree from the University of Ibadan, Nigeria and completed her pediatric residency at Morehouse School of Medicine in Atlanta, Georgia.  Following this, she stayed on as Chief Resident for a year.  Dr. Ogbu then completed her pediatric rheumatology fellowship at Emory University School of Medicine and Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. She also earned a Master of Science in Clinical Research from Emory University. 

Dr. Ogbu specializes in managing a range of rheumatologic autoimmune and autoinflammatory diseases in children. She has specific clinical interests in childhood-onset systemic lupus erythematosus, autoinflammatory diseases and immune dysregulation, systemic vasculitis, juvenile dermatomyositis, juvenile idiopathic arthritis and rare diseases.

Dr. Ogbu's research focuses on childhood-onset systemic lupus and lupus nephritis. She seeks to understand primary hematological disorders and autoimmune hematologic processes on cSLE phenotype and long-term renal outcomes.

She is a member of the American College of Rheumatology (ACR), the Childhood Arthritis and Rheumatology Research Alliance, the Pediatric Rheumatology Collaborative Study Group, the American Academy of Pediatrics, and the Clinical Immunology Society.

Dr. Ogbu serves on the ACR Pediatric Rheumatology Special Committee. more
