Dr. Donald M. Steinwachs holds a joint appointment in health sciences informatics at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. He also holds joint appointments in medicine and in psychiatry and behavioral sciences. Dr. Steinwachs is a professor emeritus at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health

He earned his Ph.D. at the Johns Hopkins Whiting School of Engineering

Dr. Steinwachs co-developed both the Johns Hopkins ACG® System case-mix adjustment and the Johns Hopkins Hospital at Home® initiative. He also has developed methods of measuring provider continuity, care timeliness and care needs, both met and unmet.

He serves on the executive board of the Johns Hopkins University Public Policy Center. more

Research Summary

Dr. Steinwachs’ research interests concern quality of care and patient outcomes for people with severe mental illnesses. Research has documented poor evidence-based quality for schizophrenia, and current research is seeking to test interventions to improve conformity to evidence-based practices.
