Background

Dr. Pettigrew is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Neurology in the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, and Leader of the Outreach, Recruitment and Engagement (ORE) Core of the Johns Hopkins Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center (JHADRC). Her primary research interests are in individual differences in cognition and biomarkers in older adults at risk for age-related cognitive decline and development of clinical symptoms of Alzheimer’s disease (AD) (i.e., preclinical AD). This includes examining risk and protective factors that may influence vulnerability to aging and disease among individuals with normal cognition.

Dr. Pettigrew received her Bachelor’s in Psychology from the University of Mary Washington, and her Master’s and Doctorate in Psychology at Rice University. She completed her postdoctoral training at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, and was appointed to the Johns Hopkins faculty in 2015.

Research & Publications

Research Summary

Dr. Pettigrew’s research examines cognitive and biomarker (imaging, cerebrospinal fluid) measures as predictors of longitudinal cognitive and clinical decline, as well as their inter-relationship with risk and protective factors. This has included the study of both modifiable risk factors such as cognitive reserve (as measured by proxy variables such as education, literacy, and engagement in lifestyle activities) and vascular risk (as measured by composite vascular risk scores and blood glucose), and non-modifiable risk factors such as genetic status.

Additionally, as Leader of the Johns Hopkins Alzheimer's Disease Research Center's Outreach, Recruitment and Engagement Core, Dr. Pettigrew has conducted research on racial disparities related to dementia, and efforts aimed at improving strategies for recruiting minorities to research.

Patient Ratings & Comments

The Patient Rating score is an average of all responses to physician related questions on the national CG-CAHPS Medical Practice patient experience survey through Press Ganey. Responses are measured on a scale of 1 to 5, with 5 being the best score. Comments are also gathered from our CG-CAHPS Medical Practice Survey through Press Ganey and displayed in their entirety. Patients are de-identified for confidentiality and patient privacy.
