Background
Colleen S. Kepner, MD, is the Medical Director of the Ob/Gyn Hospitalist Program at Sibley Memorial Hospital.
Dr. Kepner began her career on Capitol Hill as a Legislative Assistant for Health Policy while also volunteering at the Whitman Walker Clinic. After recognizing her passion for direct patient care, she transitioned from politics to medicine. She obtained her medical degree at Drexel University College of Medicine and completed her residency training in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Medstar Washington Hospital Center.
As a National Health Service Corps scholar, she began her practice in a Federally Qualified Health Center in Colorado. While working for the FQHC, she expanded her interest in health care leadership with a focus on education and quality improvement. One of her most enduring projects was the development of a clinic-private practitioner co-op OB/Gyn Hospitalist program. It was designed to meet the care gaps in the community to provide patients with immediate access to high quality, safe obstetric care.
Dr. Kepner also coordinates the inpatient care for the Maternal Health Access Program at Sibley Memorial Hospital. The program focuses on reducing the rise in maternal and neonatal morbidity in the District of Columbia by enhancing access to high-risk pregnancy care and health education, as well as identifying and addressing healthcare disparities in our community with a focus on health-related social needs.
