Background
Dr. Carmen Cuffari is an associate professor of pediatrics at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. His area of clinical expertise is pediatric gastroenterology, with a particular focus on inflammatory bowel disease (IBD).
Dr. Cuffari received his medical degree at the University of Ottawa. He went on to complete a residency in pediatrics at The Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario in Ottawa, Canada, and a fellowship in pediatric gastroenterology at St. Justine’s Hospital in Montreal, Canada.
His research focuses on the pharmacogenomics of immunosuppressant drugs in patients with inflammatory bowel disease and in children post-liver transplantation, as well as the immunomodulatory mechanism of action of anti-metabolite drugs in patients with inflammatory bowel disease.
Dr. Cuffari has over 50 publications in peer-reviewed journals. He served as associate editor of the journal Inflammatory Bowl Diseases and reviews manuscripts for several other journals, including Clinical Gastroenterology and Hepatology, Journal of Clinical Gastroenterology, American Journal of Gastroenterology and The Pediatric Journal of Gastroenterology and Nutrition. He is certified by the American Board of Pediatrics.
