Dr. Kim is a pulmonary and critical care medicine physician. He is an expert in the diagnosis and treatment of critical illness in the ICU setting with a focus in post-operative management of patients undergoing cardiothoracic surgery including heart and lung transplantation, cardiac bypass graft, and valvular replacement procedures as well as LVAD implantation and ECMO cannulation. more

Research & Publications

Research Summary

Dr. Kim is interested in studying the mechanisms behind ischemia reperfusion (IR) injury as it pertains to lung transplantation and Ex Vivo Lung Perfusion (EVLP) programs. His research involves analysis at the genetic level of lungs undergoing IR exposure and mapping out the multiple pathways most pertinent to the pathophysiology of injury in order to identify novel therapeutic targets. In addition, he will be the principal investigator in a large collaborative research study of Veno-venous (VV) ECMO in a large animal model.
