Dr. Amir-Homayoon Najmi completed the Mathematical Tripos at Cambridge University and obtained his D.Phil. at Oxford University. He is with the Johns Hopkins University's Applied Physics Laboratory and is a faculty member of the Whiting School of Engineering CE programs in applied physics and electrical engineering.

Dr. Najmi was a Fulbright scholar at the Relativity Centre, University of Texas, a Research Associate and Instructor at the University of Utah and a Research Physicist at Shell Oil Bellaire Geophysical Research center before joining the Johns Hopkins University APL.He has published research in areas including quantum field theory in cosmological space-times, seismic inverse scattering, adaptive signal processing applied to electromagnetic waves and biosurveillance. Dr. Najmi has developed and taught courses in relativity, astrophysics, cosmology, advanced signal processing and wavelet signal analysis at the Whiting School. His book Wavelets: A Concise Guide was published by the Johns Hopkins University Press in 2012. more

Research & Publications

Research Summary

Dr. Najmi studies the effects of mental activity on the termination of epileptic-like seizures that arise after cortical stimulation. (Electrical stimulation is performed to localize motor, sensory, language, and other important brain areas.)

His work includes time-scale applications using continuous wavelets and orthogonal wavelet packets, in addition to multi-channel optimal linear filters.
