Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experience

Thank you for your interest in the Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experience at The Johns Hopkins Hospital. The duration of the APPE rotation can span from 4-6 weeks and depends on the school. Students who rotate at the hospital will be exposed to a diverse patient population that includes direct and non-direct patient care rotations. Due to limited availability, APPE rotations at The Johns Hopkins Hospital are available solely to students from:

  • Duquesne University
  • Notre Dame of Maryland University
  • Ohio Northern University
  • Ohio State University
  • Palm Beach Atlantic University
  • St. Joseph's/Philadelphia College of Pharmacy
  • Shenandoah University
  • University of Maryland (Baltimore Campus)
  • University of Maryland (Eastern Shore)
Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experience

The Department of Pharmacy at The Johns Hopkins Hospital aims to provide safe, high quality patient care in an atmosphere of professionalism, respect, and effective communication. There are 200 pharmacists staffed for the 1,000 beds the hospital offers, as well as 70 board certified pharmacists that work in their specialty. During their time at the hospital, the student will work closely with their preceptor to care for patients and develop professional competencies. By the end of the APPE rotation at The Johns Hopkins Hospital, students will develop essential professional and clinical skills that will translate well into their professional career as a pharmacist.
