Flu Vaccination Clinics Begin This Month

Date: 10/01/2016

The flu strikes thousands each year, putting health care workers and people with weakened immune systems at risk for severe complications from the infection. An annual influenza vaccination is the best protection against getting the flu, and once again, free flu vaccination clinics will be held throughout the health system starting this month.

If you are a Johns Hopkins Medicine faculty or staff member, postdoc, or resident, you can get a free flu vaccination on the East Baltimore campus, Homewood campus and other sites. Occupational Health Services will also offer Tdap (tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccinations free of charge at locations on the East Baltimore campus. See hopkinsmedicine.org/hse/occupational_health/flu_campaign.html for policy details, and vaccination clinic dates, locations and times.

All personnel who provide patient care or whose primary work location is in a patient or clinical care area must be vaccinated for the 2016–17 flu season before Tuesday, Dec. 6. If you have a valid medical or religious reason not to get a flu shot this year, you must request an exception by completing the appropriate form and receiving approval by Tuesday, Nov. 1. Those who receive an exception must wear a mask when they are within 6 feet of a patient during the influenza season.
