Sidney Kimmel Honored with Portrait and Degree
Date: December 1, 2004
Sidney Kimmel (right), seen with Center Director Martin D. Abeloff, M.D., was honored on May 21, 2003, at a portrait dedication ceremony. His portrait, which hangs in the Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Building, joins the likes of Mary Elizabeth Garrett and Johns Hopkins, himself, whose philanthropic commitment created the Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions.
Sidney Kimmel’s $150 million contribution to the Cancer Center was the largest single gift in Hopkins’ history. He was recently recognized in Business Week magazine as one of America's top philanthropists. Mr. Kimmel was also honored on May 22, 2003, at Johns Hopkins University commencement services with a doctor of humane letters, honoris causa.
