Avon Makes Record Gift to Breast Cancer Program
Date: December 1, 2004
The Avon Foundation has given $10 million, the largest single gift ever to the Johns Hopkins Breast Cancer Program, for construction of the Johns Hopkins Avon Foundation Breast Center. It also supports breast cancer research and community outreach to underserved women at higher risk for breast cancer.
The Avon Access to Breast Health Care Initiative provides funding for education and screening services for underserved minority and low-income women in Baltimore City. The new initiative enhances services currently provided through Hopkins partnerships with community-based cancer education centers.
Avon Foundation sponsored research is led by Nancy Davidson, M.D., Breast Cancer Research Chair and Director of the Breast Cancer Research program and includes support for Avon Scholar Ben Ho Park, M.D., and a collaborative breast cancer chemoprevention study with the Fred Hutchinson Comprehensive Cancer Center in Seattle.
