Imagine yourself as a 9-year-old with asthma. Running, jumping and other physical activities make it difficult for you to breathe. Most of the time, you find yourself sitting on the sidelines trying to catch your breath.

At Camp Superkids, we give children diagnosed with asthma the confidence and tools to step away from the sidelines and be more active.

“Our campers—ages 7 to 12—are given the opportunity to experience traditional summer camp activities in an environment where they’re also learning how to control and treat their asthma,” says Ceal Curry, camp co-director and child life program coordinator at Johns Hopkins Bayview.

“It’s amazing to see these kids who were very shy and afraid to participate in anything, become active, ‘normal’ children by the end of the week,” she says.
