GI at Sibley Memorial Hospital: The Best of Both Worlds

Date: November 28, 2014

When Washington’s Sibley Memorial Hospital joined Johns Hopkins Medicine in 2010, it brought with it a distinguished history of serving the community since 1890.

Now, through the Johns Hopkins collaboration, a new Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at Sibley offers cutting-edge academic medicine in the community hospital setting.

Sibley’s Director of Endoscopy Firas Al-Kawas, Director of Hepatology Kirti Shetty, hepatologist Jacqueline Laurin and their colleagues treat patients with biliary and pancreatic problems, as well as endoscopic mucosal resection of polyps in duodenum and colon.

“The endoscopy and GI expertise here is at the level of an advanced academic unit,” says Al-Kawas. “Essentially, the Johns Hopkins program in Baltimore now has another unit at our hospital.”
