Make a Significant Gift That Costs You Nothing Today

Date: December 4, 2012

The Johns Hopkins Department of Surgery is committed to leading the world in discovery, education and healing. Each year, many of the generous donors who help us advance our mission do so by making a bequest commitment, a statement in their written will or estate plan of their desire to provide a charitable gift after their death. Bequests are easy to arrange and can be made from a variety of assets, including cash, appreciated securities, real estate and personal property. You may also wish to designate the department as beneficiary of a retirement plan, IRA or life insurance policy.

Giving in this way allows you to provide future support for research, teaching and patient care at no cost to you during your lifetime. Depending on the asset used, your bequest may also reduce estate and death taxes and increase the size of the estate available for your heirs.

For more information on creating a bequest to benefit the Department of Surgery, please contact Richard Letocha in the Johns Hopkins Office of Gift Planning, 410-516-7954, 800-548-1268 or; or visit
