BALTIMORE, MD – The Johns Hopkins Hospital is proud to be ranked #4 in the nation out of more than 4,500 hospitals reviewed for U.S. News & World Report’s 2021–22 Best Hospitals list, which was released today.

The publication also ranked 12 specialties at Johns Hopkins among the top 10 in the nation, with two — Psychiatry and Rheumatology — ranking #1. The hospital has been designated as one of the top five hospitals in the nation for all 32 years of the U.S. News and World Report rankings.

In a congratulatory video message to staff, Redonda G. Miller, M.D., M.B.A., president of The Johns Hopkins Hospital, noted the hospital’s long history of excellence — dating back to the day the hospital opened its doors in 1889 and redefined medical care in the United States.

“Institutions are only as strong as their people. And our people are extraordinary,” she said. “Every day, our team marries the latest in scientific advancement with the little touches that make our care — expert, certainly — but also approachable, accessible, humane, and kind.”

In a note to all Johns Hopkins Medicine employees, Paul B. Rothman, M.D., dean of the medical faculty and CEO of Johns Hopkins Medicine, and Kevin W. Sowers, M.S.N., R.N., F.A.A.N., president of the Johns Hopkins Health System and executive vice president of Johns Hopkins Medicine, thanked faculty and staff members “for their impressive dedication to our mission.”

“Receiving this recognition is especially meaningful now, as our nurses, residents, physicians, other clinicians and support staff members have persevered throughout the pandemic to deliver safe, quality, expert care to patients with serious illnesses, including COVID-19,” Dr. Rothman and Mr. Sowers wrote.

All five Johns Hopkins Medicine member hospitals in Maryland and Washington, D.C., were recognized in the regional rankings.

The Johns Hopkins Hospital ranked #1 overall in Maryland and in the Baltimore region, as well as in all 15 medical specialties reviewed by the magazine.

Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center tied for the #6 ranking in Maryland and in the Baltimore region.

Howard County General Hospital tied for the #11 ranking in Maryland and tied for the #9 ranking in the Baltimore region.

Sibley Memorial Hospital tied for the #4 ranking in the Washington, D.C., metro region.

Suburban Hospital ranked #8 in Maryland and #7 in the Washington, D.C., metro region.
