Every year since 2008, the Johns Hopkins Center for Women’s Health, Sex, and Gender Research (formerly the Johns Hopkins Women’s Health Research Group) has hosted the Women’s Health Research Symposium to showcase research collaborations across Johns Hopkins’ schools of medicine, public health and nursing.

This is the symposium’s 11-year anniversary. Since its inception in 2007, the group has facilitated numerous networking and career development opportunities. It also leads the Johns Hopkins’ American Heart Association’s Go Red for Women Strategically Focused Research Network Center, among other programs. The center’s main goal is to increase high-quality, high-impact women’s health and sex research that will improve women’s health around the globe.

What:

“A Spotlight on Women’s Health, Sex and Gender Research in Baltimore and Beyond,” a day-long symposium showcasing research by prominent senior faculty members in the Johns Hopkins Center for Women’s Health, Sex and Gender Research.

A sample of research presentations includes:

  • “Exploring the Implications of the Vaginal Microbiome During Pregnancy”
    • Kevin DeLong, Ph.D., ophthalmology-nanomedicine research fellow at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine
  • “Effects of the Affordable Care Act on Young Women with Gynecologic Cancers”
    • Anna Jo Smith, M.D., M.P.H., M.Sc., assistant resident of gynecology and obstetrics at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine
  • “The Effects of Sex and Age on Vaccine-Induced Immunity & Protection”
    • Tanvi Potluri, graduate student at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health
