Johns Hopkins Medicine Hosts Briefing on Women’s Health

Since its inception in 1995, the mission for A Woman’s Journey has remained the same: to empower women to make the right health care decisions for their families and themselves,

WHAT: A Woman’s Journey is hosting a 90-minute virtual event during which Johns Hopkins experts will address important issues related to women’s health and provide vital information regarding medical advances and cutting-edge research. Registrants will learn about COVID-19, the relationship between infections and stroke, and the latest research regarding lung cancer among women who have never smoked. Speakers will answer live questions submitted by participants. Pat Lawson Muse, news anchor for Washington’s NBC4, will moderate the Q&A session.

WHY: This briefing provides an opportunity to hear from Johns Hopkins faculty physicians about discoveries and innovations in preventing, diagnosing and treating illnesses that particularly affect women.

WHO: Speakers and topics include the following.

Keynote Speaker: Lisa Maragakis, M.D., M.P.H., Johns Hopkins associate professor of medicine and senior director of infection prevention, will share the latest information about COVID-19 and its persistent threat.

Surprising Risk of Stroke: Mona Bahouth, M.D., Ph.D., assistant professor of neurology at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, will discuss the impact of infections on stroke and brain health.

Inhale: Josephine Feliciano, M.D., associate professor of oncology at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, will discuss the sudden and alarming rise of lung cancer cases among women who have never smoked. She will also discuss symptoms, and treatment strategies that can be effective with early detection.
