The Johns Hopkins Hospital will host a medication take back event with Walgreens and the Baltimore Police Department on Saturday, Oct. 27, 2018. This event is one of many collection sites for National Prescription Drug Take Back Day.

Studies show that the majority of opioids prescribed for surgery go unused, and more than 90 percent of patients fail to dispose of leftover opioids in recommended ways. To reduce exposure to unsecured prescription drugs and prevent improper usage, Johns Hopkins physicians and pharmacists will be present at the take back event to engage with community members and provide information about the opioid epidemic and safe medication disposal methods.

The Baltimore Police Department will also provide medication disposal bags for future home disposal.
